Julian “Ray” Fain

Julian "Ray" Fain, 80, of Searcy, passed from this life on Sunday, April 24, 2011. He was born Nov. 14, 1930 in Bee Branch, Ark., to the late Lester B. and Alma "Doll" Johnson Fain. Mr. Fain worked as a coach and guidance counselor at various public schools which included Griffithville, West Point, Pangburn, Bradford, and Judsonia. After his retirement, he worked part-time at White County Central Elementary. From 1949 to 1953 he played basketball at A.S.T.C. (now known as U.C.A.-Conway) in which was the first all state basketball team, starting as "center." Mr. Fain was an Army Veteran, member of West Race Baptist Church, Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, White County Retired Teachers Association, and was a Mason.

Opal Bean Baxter, 103 of Searcy, died April 23, 2011. She was born Nov. 4, 1907 in Kirbyville, Texas; the oldest of five children of Ector Estel and Nettie Hooks Bean. Her brothers, Doyle and Emil Bean, and Sisters, Jessie Mae Nichols and Annette Bills all preceded her in death. In 1941 she married Paul Madison Baxter who also preceded her in death. He was the love of her life. She is survived by many family members who live in various states.
